The full trailer for Foundation season 3 has been released, and it offers the best look yet at the villain that will force the Empire and the Foundation to work together. Foundation season 3 will take place 152 years after the events of season 2, the Apple TV+ show once again showing it is not afraid of shaking things up and changing the status quo of the series. Despite the time jump, many familiar faces had already been confirmed for season 3.
Now, Apple TV+ reveals the full Foundation season 3 trailer. Hari Seldon narrates the history of the Foundation, which was an essential part of his plan to eventually rescue humanity from a period of chaos. The trailer then shows that not only the Foundation but also the Empire is being threatened by the Mule, whose mentalic powers make him essentially unstoppable. The action-packed trailer also offers a look at the different versions of Cleon and reveals that Gaal Dornick is the key to stopping the Mule. Watch the trailer below:

Despite some concerns about the status of Foundation following the news that co-creator David S. Goyer was reportedly stepping back from his showrunner duties, the trailer for season 3 indicates that the show has not lost its touch. Between the scale of it all and the sense of urgency, Foundation season 3 is looking to be the show's biggest and boldest yet.

The trailer makes it clear that, while season 3 will take place over a century after Foundation season 2's finale, the show will continue to explore the same themes and character arcs from the previous season. Hari Seldon's plan is still what guides the characters, especially now that the second Foundation has flourished.
The Mule first appeared in Foundation and Empire, the second entry in Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, in a story originally published as "The Mule."
After being teased at the end of season 2, the Mule is now expected to be Foundation season 3's main villain and the show's most dangerous antagonist yet. The trailer reveals that the Cleon Dynasty and the Foundation will have to work together to stop the Mule from taking over everything.

Foundation Season 3 Can Be The Show's Best Yet
While the first two seasons of Foundation didn't have clear villains and were more about the logistical and societal challenges that came with the creation of the Foundation, season 3 has an obvious antagonist who can raise the stakes for the characters. The Mule is one of the biggest threats to Hari Seldon's plan, and with the Empire in decline, Foundation season 3 can be completely different from seasons 1 and 2 in a good way. It may not be up to Gaal, who's been around since before the first Foundation, to save the galaxy.
